Summer Fever/Summer Bucket List

Yesterday was beautiful!!!  We started our day with a play date with some good friends.  The boys played outside and played basketball.  I like to think that they were doing that and pretending to be their favorite college basketball team during march madness...and I'm pretty sure that I heard them talk about Fred Hoiberg....who knows though, right?

After naps, we went to Colby Park for a couple hours!  It was BEAUTIFUL outside!!  The kids ALL had a blast!  Kalyn was walking everywhere holding onto my fingers, of course.  She loved playing on the slides.  She insisted on going down by herself!  No Fear!  The boys ran the bases on the field, did the big slide, teeter totter thing, and went from play set to play set and back again!

When we got home, we played in the driveway for a couple more hours!  Rode bikes.... Nolan has Brayden's bike from 2 years ago and in ONE DAY, he learned how to ride it!  Now we just need to get him a helmet!!!  Kalyn loves playing in the little tykes car.  Brayden rides his Big Boy (aka Good Boy) bike from our driveway to Bob's driveway and back again.  The other night, the boys were riding in the Gator and they would pull over and run to Kalyn, kiss her, and get back on the Gator.  It got to the point where Kalyn would pucker her lips as they drove by, so they HAD to stop for kisses!  I LOVE THIS!

I already have started our summer bucket list!  What's on yours?!

Update (long post)

Hi!  I haven't forgotten about our (my) blog.  I just haven't felt like we've had anything interesting to write about and I have been reading-one of my two NEW favorite R's. (the other is running and I'll tell you more about that later!)

1.Since I am not involved in a book club, I will blog about it :)
*Bared to You by Sylvia Day--This is a 3 book series and the third book comes out in June.  I felt this was better written than 50 Shades.  Definitely an on-edge book.  I highly recommend it.  I will be re-reading the first two books right before the 3rd, which I have already purchased on pre-order from amazon, is delivered to my door.

*Gone Girl-Gillian Flynn--This book is A-mazing!  ;) Inside joke, I suppose.  When I started the book, I wasn't sure what I was going to think.  It is a GREAT book-not 50 Shades-esq.  It is more of a mystery and keeps you questioning. I LOVE IT!

2.I've been running.... and nothing is chasing me!!!
*My friend, Lisa, talked to me about a race she signed up for.  The Leprechaun Chase (March 16).  She told me on March 2.  I decided that despite the fact that it was a 10k (6.2 miles), I was IN.  I just ran on the treadmill at the YMCA a few times.  The Saturday before the race, I ran at the gym and somehow I ran 5 miles and felt FANTASTIC.  I could have kept going, so I knew I would be okay on the day of the race.  Plus, I got a new coat perfect for running :)  so I looked the part!  The closer it got to race day, the colder the projection.  It was cold, windy, cold, brrrrrrrrrrrr!  However, I made it.  Based on my calculations, I ran it under an hour even though the "official" time said 1 hour and 14 seconds.  (I had 57 min).  I had fun and did better than I expected.
*That being said, I signed up for another race.... Dam to Dam 20k.... Yup... It is 12.427 miles and I have never ran more than 6.2 miles .... EVER.  SO... since I had already done the 6.2 miles, I might as well continue training and get trained for the 20k.  Jon does it every year and I did my first ever 5k last year (Dam to Dam 5k). I have put the challenge out there for myself and I am excited to give it a try!

3.I became an Advocare distributor!!  I did it for the discount on my products... and products for friends and family.  I use SPARK regularly (energy drink--as if I need it!!!!) and Jon and I have both started taking (Jon will start taking) Omega 3.  It is great to "oil" your joints and also for people who have cholesterol issues-whether you are taking medication to monitor your cholesterol or not.  I could go ON AND ON about Advocare, but I will just say this... if you need anything, let me know :)

KIDS
1.Brayden
*He is as ornery as ever!!!  We are working on teaching him to not back-talk.  OH it drives me NUTS when he says NO when we tell him to do something!!!! A while back we were struggling with sleeping/going to bed at night.... Well....NO More.  He now sleeps on his cot (imagine a cot that children might rest on at school or daycare) on the floor in Kalyn's room.  *sigh* Not the optimal location for him, but it works for now and we are ALL sleeping better!!! He is doing great in school and has made two friends (his best friends) that he just would do anything for.  Eddie and Ben.... M. (there are two bens.....) They are both older in the class (almost 6) where Brayden is almost 5.  Our plan is for Brayden to do another year of Pre-K and then start Kindergarten in 2014.
*We just got done with Spring Break and it was painless. YUP... You read that right!  We went for an overnight to a hotel with waterpark.  It was fantastic and ALL the kids had a blast.  Brayden LOVES jumping into the water to Jon or me.

2. Nolan
*He is SO funny!  He puts himself to bed at naptime and bedtime (as of late, he likes a piggy back ride from Jon at bedtime).  He goes potty COMPLETELY by himself-for good and bad as we all know he still probably needs help wiping #2s.  He's been potty trained since June 2012, but he literally wants NOBODY to help him with ANYTHING....except hooking and unhooking his spiderman costume so he can take it off to go to the bathroom and put it back on when he is done.  He literally wears it EVERYDAY.  Rule is he cannot wear it to bed and he cannot wear it out of the house. I know, I am SO mean.  Nolan goes to preschool one day per week right now (FREE) and he is signed up for 3 days per week next year!!!  He loves school and is VERY excited!!!
*Nolan liked swimming.  He was not a fan of the slide and he does not currently like to be in water deeper than he can touch (being held by someone).  Hoping swim lessons (private lessons is the way to go!! more on that this summer!) will get him more excited about jumping in and swimming as he already puts his head under and blows bubbles.

3.Kalyn
*Oh boy.... She is a pistol!  She acts like a redhead even though she has dark blonde hair! (attitude like mommy, hair like daddy).  She is STUBBORN.  She is almost 15 months and is not walking on her own--which has been fine with me, but I would really like her to walk before the weather gets to be nice when we are outside all the time.  Walking to and from school, riding bikes, playing at the park....yes, I am dreaming today, but this weekend it is supposed to get into the 50s!!!  She will NOT drink milk.  I am not sure where she got that from, but she has NEVER been interested!  She will ONLY drink water! Kalyn will get to do a preschool day next year too, but it is less school, more play and it is also FREE!
*Kalyn was hesitant about swimming for about the first 5-10 minutes.  Then.... game over!  She was splashing and crawling all over the pool!!!  We will be hitting up the FREE splash parks ALL summer!!!!!

JON
1. I am not sure where to start.  He is my absolute best friend.  I would take him everywhere with me if I could!  I love doing just about everything with him!  My favorite (our favorite) thing to do is watch college sports together!  He has somehow gotten me interested in ISU basketball and football (only those two so far) without doing much persuading.  We just have so much fun watching either in person or on TV and I just couldn't help myself.  I got attached to the players and the coaches and now..... I want my kids to go to ISU!  :)  I want them to be a part of the programs there.... Yes, I actually said that!  It means they will be close and I want to be able to be there for them if they need me.... mushy mushy.  He has started his "training" for his one and only 20k.  Again.... something he got me started on without saying or doing anything much.  My hopes for my amazing husband... golf the summer away... as much as his job will allow.  Grill out, spend time with us, take a lovely vacation with me (which we ARE doing and I will write more on that later!), and enjoy all the things he wants to do!  My kids have to ask permission.... my husband does not.  That is silly.  Have I mentioned how I love how goofy he is, yet how smart and professional he is? Again... mushy mushy.... There are several items on my honey-do list for this spring and summer.  I will fill you all in on those as they come about.  Until then next time....

*********I did not take one single picture while we were swimming or at the hotel!  I don't know WHAT I was thinking!! This summer I will take pictures, I swear!

Big XII tournament!!

Today was game day!!! Cyclones won!!! I am so thankful for having fun watching the game as a family!!! Here's how I found Kalyn an hour before game time!!! It's rough being a cyclone fan on game day!!!
